Issue 12682
Hair Rendering Problem When Using Reallusion Character via Live Link in Unreal Engine 5.6
I am contacting you again regarding a serious hair rendering problem that occurs when transferring a Reallusion character to Unreal Engine 5.6 through Live Link and rendering the character in Sequencer.

As shown in the attached screenshot, the character's hairstyle becomes severely distorted and corrupted during rendering. The hair does not maintain its intended shape and becomes unusable in the final cinematic output.

This is not the first time I have reported this issue.

I previously submitted this problem as an issue to Reallusion, but I did not receive a meaningful response, a clear explanation of the cause, or a working solution.

This is particularly frustrating because every time this problem occurs and cannot be resolved, I have been forced to create a completely new project and repeat the entire setup and production process from the beginning just to determine whether the problem disappears.

This means that the issue is not simply a minor inconvenience. It is causing a significant loss of development time and repeated production work.

I would like to formally raise the following concerns:

Why has this issue not been properly investigated or resolved despite being reported previously?

Why has no clear explanation been provided regarding the cause of the hair corruption?

Why have I not been given specific instructions or a reliable workaround to prevent this problem?

And most importantly, why has my previous issue report effectively received no meaningful follow-up?

When a production workflow depends on Reallusion characters being transferred to Unreal Engine, a rendering problem that can completely corrupt a character's hairstyle should not simply be ignored.

I am using the Live Link workflow specifically because it is an officially provided workflow for integrating Reallusion characters with Unreal Engine. Therefore, I expect Reallusion to provide a clear explanation when the workflow produces an invalid or corrupted rendering result.

Current environment
Reallusion Character Creator / iClone
Unreal Engine 5.6
Unreal Live Link
Level Sequence / Sequencer
Cinematic rendering
The actual problem

The character can appear usable during the editing process, but when the sequence is rendered, the hair becomes severely distorted, stretched, and visually corrupted.

This makes the character unusable for cinematic production.

I need Reallusion to determine whether this is:

A Live Link problem
A Character Creator/iClone hair export problem
A Groom/Hair system compatibility problem
An Unreal Engine 5.6 compatibility problem
A material or shader issue
A Sequencer/Movie Render Queue issue
Or a known bug in the Reallusion Unreal integration

Please do not simply provide generic troubleshooting suggestions.

I need a specific explanation of the root cause and a reproducible solution.

Please provide:

The exact cause of this hair corruption.
The correct Character Creator/iClone settings before sending the character to Unreal Engine.
The correct Live Link settings for Unreal Engine 5.6.
The required Groom, Hair, material, or rendering settings in Unreal Engine.
The correct settings for Sequencer and Movie Render Queue.
Whether this workflow is officially supported with Unreal Engine 5.6.
Whether this is a known bug.
If it is a known bug, the current status of the issue and the expected fix.
A reliable workaround that allows me to continue working without having to recreate my entire Unreal project.

I also want to make it clear that repeatedly recreating an Unreal project is not an acceptable workaround.

I have already lost significant development time because of this issue. Every time the problem occurs, I am forced to question whether the problem is caused by the project itself, the Live Link transfer, the character, the hair system, or Unreal Engine.

Without a proper explanation from Reallusion, it is impossible to determine the actual cause, and this results in repeatedly wasted production time.

I am therefore asking Reallusion to take this issue seriously and provide an actual technical response rather than leaving the issue unresolved.

If this is a known compatibility problem, please acknowledge it clearly.

If it is a bug, please provide the bug status and workaround.

If it is caused by an incorrect setting, please provide the exact settings required to prevent it.

I would also appreciate an explanation as to why my previous report did not receive a meaningful response or solution.

This issue is directly affecting my ability to use Reallusion's characters for Unreal Engine cinematic production, and I need a reliable solution before I can continue using this workflow.

I have attached the rendering result showing the hair corruption for reference.

I look forward to receiving a specific technical explanation and a working solution.

That is why it is extremely frustrating to repeatedly encounter technical problems, report them through the official support system, and still have to solve them myself.

To be honest, I am also concerned that this case will once again result in generic or automated responses without any actual investigation or solution. I already know from my previous experiences how this process can end: I wait for a long time, receive no concrete solution, and eventually have to solve the problem myself or abandon the issue.

I sincerely hope that this case will be handled differently.

Please actually investigate the cause of this problem, explain why the hair collision works correctly during the transfer but becomes broken after restarting the Unreal Engine project, and provide a concrete solution.

If you need specific files to reproduce and investigate the issue, please tell me exactly what you need and provide an official Reallusion upload link. I am willing to provide the necessary files through that link.

What I need is not another generic response. I need an actual investigation, an explanation of the cause, and a practical solution.

During the transfer process, the collision between the hair and the character's head works normally. However, after I restart the Unreal Engine project, the collision becomes broken.

I am attaching a video link that clearly demonstrates the problem.

I also do not understand what you mean when you ask for the “project file.” Do you want me to provide the avatar file, or are you asking for the entire Unreal Engine project? Please clearly specify exactly what files you need from me.

I have already reported this issue several times. Last year, I even provided a 120 GB Unreal Engine project file. However, I received no meaningful response or solution at that time. Eventually, the problem could not be resolved in UE 5.4, so I had to restart the entire project from the beginning in UE 5.6.

The issue at that time was related to packaging. I waited for three months for a response, but no response ever came.

Ultimately, while I was waiting for your response, the issue remained unresolved, so I had no choice but to solve the problem myself.

This makes me seriously question whether I will have to solve this issue by myself again this time. I am concerned that I may once again spend a long time waiting for a response, only to receive no actual solution and eventually have to resolve the problem on my own.

I also want to make it clear that I no longer want to provide my project files through a publicly accessible link from my personal cloud storage.

If you need project files or specific files for investigation, please provide me with an official Reallusion cloud upload link. I will upload whatever files you require directly to your designated storage.

Last year, I was not fully aware of the implications of publicly sharing my personal cloud storage link, so I provided the project that way. However, I found the process uncomfortable, and I do not want to use that method again.

Therefore, if you require files for further investigation, please provide an official Reallusion upload link and clearly specify exactly which files you need. I will provide them through that link.

I have repeatedly submitted issues through the Tracking Issue system whenever I encounter problems because I expect to receive proper technical support and a concrete solution. However, I have never actually received a satisfactory solution through this process. Every time, I have ultimately had to either figure out the solution myself or give up on the issue.

The amount of money I have invested in building my Reallusion ecosystem is by no means a small amount for an indie developer like myself. I have invested a significant amount of time and money into your products and ecosystem because I want to continue using them for my development work.

Hi ryuradop,

Could you check if the hair looks fine when transferring their character to Unreal Engine? Also, does the hair display properly during runtime Live Link?

Thank you

Hi ryuradop,

To help us investigate your case further, could you please attach your project file and provide a screen recording showing your workflow and the issue you encountered?

Thanks!
